Jamie Chiu is driven by one goal — that no child’s future is held back because of poor mental health.
As a teen, Dr Chiu struggled with anxiety and depression, but fell through the cracks because she showed no visible signs. Now, she builds tools that make mental health more measurable, helps schools ‘know early’ which students are at risk, and supports youths to overcome challenges. Through her work, she empowers schools and teachers to feel more confident, capable, and knowledgeable in their efforts to proactively support students at risk of mental health issues.
She has been recognised as a Forbes 30 Under 30 for creating a video game that detects non-obvious signs of depression, which won Gold at the 2018 Hong Kong ICT Awards for her digital suicide prevention program for schools. In 2019 she was chosen as one of Channel News Asia’s Champions for Change.
